The ingredients found in MD Healthline's Total Health™
have been subjected to numerous scientific tests, which have clearly demonstrated
the effectiveness and efficacy of this potent well health formula.
L- Glutamine
Total Health™ contains L-Glutamine.
In a study reported in Life Extension: Disease Prevention and Treatment
Protocols,L-Glutamine was demonstrated to be an "important metabolic substrate
of rapidly proliferating cells. It influences the cellular hydration (combined
with water) state and has multiple effects on the immune system, intestinal
function, and protein metabolism." In a clinical human study involving
bone-marrow transplant patients, Glutimine supplementation decreased the incidence
of infections and shortened the hospital stay. In critically ill patients, Glutamine
reduced nitrogen loss and caused a reduction of the mortality rate.
PHOSPHATIDYL SERINE
Phosphatidyl Serine plays an important role in maintaining the integrity of
brain cell membranes. The breakdown of brain cell membranes prevents glucose
and other nutrients from entering the cell. By protecting the integrity of brain
cell membranes, Phosphatidyl Serine facilitates the efficient transport of energy-producing
nutrients into cells, thus enhancing brain cell energy metabolism. To date,
eleven double blind studies have been completed using Phosphatidyl Serine in
the treatment of age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, and depression.
In the largest study conducted by T. Cenacchi et al, reported in Aging 5 (1993):
123-33, four hundred ninety four elderly patients with moderate to severe senility
were given either Phosphatidyl Serine or a placebo for six months. The patients
were assessed for mental performance, behavior, and mood at the beginning and
end of the study. Statistically significant (p<0.01) improvements were noted
in mental function, mood, and behavior in the Phosphatidyl Serine -treated group.

Serine vs. Placebo in Patients with Early Dementia of the Alzheimer Type."

CHRYSIN
Chrysin is a naturally occurring isoflavone chemically extracted from the plant
Passiflora coerulea. Chrysin has been shown to be beneficial in reducing fat
while maintaining lean body muscle. Chrysin has been popularized by European
Olympic athletes attempting to build drug- free muscles. Chrysin may have other
beneficial uses as well. In a recent article published by HK Wang et al entitled
"Recent advances in the discovery and development of flavonoids and their
analogues as antitumor and anti-HIV agents" published in Adv Exp Med Biol,
439:191-225, 1998, the researchers found that Chrysin along with other flavonoids
" provide a continuing source of potential antitumor and anti-HIV agents."
NARINGININE
Naringinine is a powerful antioxidant citrus extract that inhibits free radical
damage, acts as source of soluble fiber (pectin) to lower LDL cholesterol, and
offers appetite reduction properties. As a Citrus Flavinoid, Naringines has
been shown to inhibit enzymes called cytochrome P450. Excessive CYP450 in the
system is associated with obesity. Leptin, a hypothalamus hormone, is integrally
involved in appetite control, weight maintenance, and lowering the levels of
CYP450. A hormone from the thyroid gland (throxine) is involved in fat breakdown
and metabolism. Research indicates that a 60% to 80% reduction in CYP450 when
throxine is increased.
