What is premature ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is defined as persistent or repeated ejaculation with slight stimulation prior to or shortly after intercourse. Recent data indicates that premature ejaculation is the most common form of sexual dysfunction affecting tens of millions of men. Ejaculatory disorders can have devastating effects on relationships, and can contribute to lack of self-confidence, embarrassment, and trauma.

What causes premature ejaculation?

Current research suggests that premature ejaculation is a medical disorder with a psychological as well as a physical basis. Psychological explanations often look to early sexual experiences that conditioned rapid responsiveness. A second theory asserts that anxiety, for some men, is heightened in sexual situations. The pressure to perform under heightened anxiety may be another cause for premature ejaculation. This performance anxiety may lead to a vicious cycle that is repeated in new relationships. Contrary to popular opinion, another theory argues that premature ejaculation is related to a low sex drive. Sexual relationships proceed through three levels: Desire, Arousal, and Orgasm. The real problem for some men may be that they miss the first step. Lack of full arousal may result in less rather than more control over ejaculations. Other researchers have noted that men who suffer from premature ejaculation have a neurological problem of hypersensitivity in the penis and/ or hyperspasticity of the pelvic muscles. A recent study disputes this assertion. Eighteen patients with a life long history of premature ejaculation were tested under laboratory conditions. The study concluded that penile hypersensitivity does not appear to be a major factor in premature ejaculation.

Treatments for Premature Ejaculation

Diversionary techniques, like concentrating on something other than sex to delay an orgasm usually do not work, nor does getting drunk, using more than one condom, or using creams to numb the penis. These practices are not only ineffective they also deny a man the full pleasure that nature intended. There are some legitimate methods that have proven to be effective:

The squeeze method originated by Masters and Johnson consists of squeezing the penis hard enough to partially lose an erection prior to ejaculation. The goal of the technique is to become aware of the sensations leading to an orgasm.

The start -stop method consists of the partner starting and stopping stimulation prior to ejaculation. The series of exercises progresses to intercourse and over a period of weeks to gradually increasing ejaculatory control.

The goal of either technique is mutual satisfaction for both partners. While exercise methods may be effective, they rely on the cooperation of the man's partner, which in some cases may be a problem.

Pharmacological treatment of premature ejaculation is now receiving increased attention from physicians and the pharmaceutical industry. The use of low dose antidepressants including Anfronil, Clomipramine, Prozac, and Zoloft have been reported to be successful in delaying ejaculation for many men. The adverse side effects from such prescription medications is a deterrent for many men seeking a safe and effective means for overcoming premature ejaculation.

Premature ejaculation has historically been considered a psychosexual disorder, however, there is a growing body of scientific data that suggests that it has an organic basis related to serotonin levels in the brain. Scientific evidence indicates that increasing the amount of serotonin to the central nervous system through the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's) appears to increase the latency or period of time from penetration to ejaculation. MD Healthline's Climatrol formula provides natural herbal serotonin precursors and nutrients to speed up the chemical reaction in the brain allowing more serotonin to be formed and available for use by the body while simultaneously delivering safe and effective herbal antidepressants.

Climatrol is a synergistic combination of natural herbs in a vegetarian capsule designed to prolong sexual activity and climax without causing lethargy or sedation.

Suggested dosage: 1 capsule daily and 1 to 2 capsules prior to sexual activity. Best results are evidenced with continued usage over time.

Climatrol is manufactured in the United States under exacting health standards and regulations. Each ingredient is tested for purity before it is utilized. Please read About MD Healthline for detailed information on our rigid quality control process and 30 day money back guarantee.

Vitamin B-6 consists of: Pyridoxine, Pyridoxal, and Pyridoxamine, and their phosphate esters. The metabolically active coenzyme form of Vitamin B-6 is Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate. Animal studies have shown that Vitamin B-6 depletion leads to the development of hypertension, which is normalized within 24 hours by repletion with the vitamin. Vitamin B-6 deficiency is reported in as many as 79 percent of people with depression (compared to only 29 percent of other people). It appears that a Vitamin B-6 deficiency does not allow nerve cells to manufacture adequate amounts of serotonin and other chemicals critical to the proper functioning of the nervous system; this may result in insomnia, depression, irritability, and nervousness. Vitamin B-6 deficiency can disrupt formation of neurotransmitters. Vitamin B-6 is a co-enzyme needed for conversion of tryptophan to serotonin and phenylalanine and tyrosine to norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters are integrally related to depression. Vitamin B-6 supplementation often improves moods.

Folic Acid is a water-soluble vitamin belonging to the B-complex family. B vitamins work best together as a team, which is why it is generally recommended that we take a B-complex supplement, rather than individual B vitamins. In a recently published double blind study 127 patients with major depression were treated with Prozac and either a placebo or 500 mcg per day of folic acid. There was a significantly greater improvement in the folic acid group than in the placebo group. Research further indicates that folic acid may contribute to better sperm count and quality and therefore may help men father healthier babies.

Graffonia Seed Extract (Griffonia simplicifolia) (5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP) is an extract of seeds from a natural plant found in costal West Africa. 5-HTP is the direct metabolic precursor of serotonin and is important for the production of melatonin. Serotonin is an important brain chemical involved in mood, behavior, appetite, and sleep. 5-HTP is a natural supplement that converts in the brain into serotonin. This is done without monoamine oxidase inhibition (MAOI) and without the serious side effects of other antidepressant drugs such as Prozac and Zoloft, which belong to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These drugs influence serotonin levels by blocking its inactivation, which increases serotonin levels indirectly, causing a cellular deficiency. Unlike the drugs listed above, serotonin from Griffon is not chemically held at receptor sites where it can accumulate and cause side effects. The excess is broken down and eliminated. Increasing serotonin levels with natural herbal products like Graffiti mimic the effects of SSRI's without adverse side effects. Important byproducts most commonly associated with SSRI's are delayed ejaculation and delayed orgasm. Sexual desire (libido) and arousal difficulties are sometimes reported, however, the specific association to SSRI use has not been consistently shown.

Passiflora (Passion flower) has traditionally been used to treat nervous restlessness and gastrointestinal spasms. In short, the effects of passion flower were believed to be primarily on the nervous system, particularly for anxiety due to mental worry and overwork. For many years, plant researchers believed that a group of harmane alkaloids were the active constituents in passion flower. Recent studies, however, have pointed to the flavonoids in passion flower as the primary constituents responsible for its relaxing and anti-anxiety effects. European pharmacopoeias typically recommend passion flower products primarily as an anti-anxiety treatment.

Kava Kava ( Piper methysticum) preparations are approved in several European countries for the treatment of nervous anxiety and restlessness Studies have reported that kava preparations compare favorably to benzodiazepines in controlling symptoms of anxiety and minor depression, while increasing vigilance, sociability, memory and reaction time. Clinical studies show that the kava is effective in reducing stress, anxiety and tension. Anxiety is a major contributing factor to some forms of premature ejaculation. The extract of Passiflora in a supporting base of Kava Kava produces anti-anxiety effects that do not cause sedation.
